- Government Actions:Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:The Federal Trade Commission v GoDaddy Inc
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below."
On January 15, 2025, GoDaddy Inc entered into a Decision and Order with the Federal Trade Commission. The Order settles allegations that the business failed to implement reasonable and appropriate security measures to protect and monitor its website-hosting environments for security threats, and misled customers about the extent of its data security protections on its website hosting services. Under terms of the Order, the business is ordered to prohibit from making misrepresentations about its security and the extent to which it complies with any privacy or security program sponsored by a government, self-regulatory, or standard-setting organization, including the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Frameworks, establish and implement a comprehensive information-security program that protects the security, confidentiality, and integrity of its website-hosting services, and hire an independent third-party assessor who conducts an initial and biennial review of its information-security program. The Order was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law.
This action is final.
