In May 2024 I asked Legal Zoom to register an LLC for me in **. I paid all the fees and was done with their services. They inundated me with emails telling me I was required by law to do this and do that and I should contact them. I had no need for their services. In April I renewed my filing with an annual report I ordered and paid for myself. I just noticed last month they charged my personal card $199. I called and a very nasty customer service agent accused me of opening an email they sent me April 12, as if opening the email justified their charging me. I told her I didnt want to dispute the charge with my bank to which she replied, Go ahead. Legal Zoom will provide them with a contract we have with you I HAVE NO CONTRACT WITH THEM. And I never authorized them to charge my card without notification. I waited ten minutes for a supervisor and was told someone will call me back within 24 hours. Then I went online and saw all the complaints so came here to make my dissatisfaction known. I thought Legal Zoom was a reputable company. Boy was I duped. I want a refund from them to my personal card, I want my card number taken out of their files and I want an email confirming I have no contract with them. Shame on them for duping people so boldly and so often.Business Response

I started an llc with legalzoom assistance and the company made zero profit. I paid legal zoom to dissolve my llc and they continued to charge me for their subscribed services after dissolution. I want to make it clear my issue is not with the failure of my company to turn a profit but with the continuation of subscriptions after I paid for dissolution. To charge me for 2 subscriptions 199 dollars each after I paid them 150 to dissolve the llc and then refuse a refund is rediculous.I understand I should have verified with them that what I thought was implied cancellation however to continue to charge for services you know your client no longer requires is rediculous.Business Response

I purchased an all inclusive order ******, declining, all subscriptions, and without notice legalzoom pulled ****** from my bank account. The only indication that this transaction was going to happen was at the bottom of my receipt, which I received after I paid for my all inclusive package. After talking to the representative to try to find out where exactly it was disclosed in the buying process. I've come to realize that this is nothing but a scam, because even though I did refuse the service by hitting NO THANKS, I was still charged at the end of the day. I've already opened a business with legalzoom before, and I knew that this was something that could happen IF i didnt read everything carefully; However, I thought that I did my due diligence to prevent it this time around. Legalzoom has been very unhelpful in this matter, and the charge is currently pending a dispute with my bank because the representative whom I spoke to was unable to help me.Business Response

I used LegalZoom's services once, and since then, Ive been receiving daily phone calls on my cell phone from various numbers. These calls are persistent and feel like aggressive sales tactics for services I do not want or need. Despite asking them to stop, the calls continue. This behavior is intrusive and unacceptable, and I am requesting that LegalZoom cease all unsolicited contact immediately.Business Response

They charged me a $399 Registered Agent fee after my business had already been closed and officially dissolved with the Washington Secretary of State in August 2024. LegalZoom was notified of the dissolution by the state, yet still billed a closed account without any notice, authorization, or justification.When I called their customer service, the representative acknowledged they could see the business was dissolved, but still refused to issue a refund. Worse, the agent flat-out refused to escalate my case to a supervisor so I could get the charge resolved. Apparently, their policy is to keep your money, even if they know they have no right to it.This is a dishonest and predatory practice. Its not just bad service, its unethical.Business Response

Legal zoom has very scammy subscription practices. They put everything on auto renew and they when you might forget or realize you need to cancel a charge that was recently just renewed, talking hours or days they wont refund anything past 30 days of the first initial payment years ago. There is no other business I can think of that would operate on such scammy practice, especially one as large as legal zoom.Business Response

On April 22/2025 I contacted legal zoom to cancel my DBA order and changed it to an LLC ( they took months to fill it out btw ) so I asked them to changed to an LLc instead which they did and I was told i would be mailed 2 checks of $136 for the refund . I contacted them many times since then and they keep saying that the check was send but is being basically a month and I have not received any checks yet - which I have proof and screenshots / emails of all confirming i would get it in a week . I told them the check either got lost or was never sent and they keep saying they sent it but never gave me a tracking number or anything to confirm.Business Response

I am writing to formally file a complaint against LegalZoom.com, Inc. regarding an unsatisfactory experience related to their Registered Agent with ****************************** The issue centers around 3 years of automatic renewal charge and a subsequent refusal to issue a refund, despite clear grounds for an exception.On 5/19/*********, I was charged $299 ('23), $299 ('24), and $499 ('25) for the annual renewal of LegalZooms ************************* I had not utilized this service since 2023, and LegalZoom has not acted as my registered agent in any legal or official capacity since 2022, as evidenced by the fact that I have not listed LegalZoom as my registered agent in my business's annual report filings since that time.Upon noticing the charge, I promptly contacted LegalZooms customer service and explained the situation. I requested a refund, citing the fact that the service had not been used in over 2 years and that there was no active listing of LegalZoom as my registered agent. Despite this, my request for a refund was denied, and I was told that LegalZoom does not make exceptions to its refund policy.While I understand the importance of clear terms and policies, I believe that rigidly enforcing an automatic renewal for a service that has not been used or formally recognized for multiple years is unfair and not in good faith. There was no clear prior notification of the upcoming renewal, and I had no reason to believe that I was still subscribed to a service that had effectively been dormant since 2023, as the service was speicifically in regards to monitoring my Annual Report status and it is public information.I am seeking a full refund for auto-renewal charges from *********, totalling $1,097.I had hoped this could be resolved just between LegalZoom and my business, but I have unfortunately been compelled to share this experience with others in the hopes that this predatory business practice can be amended.Business Response
